We
have re-dedicated this section of "The Daily Mews" to Pet's Rights causes and
concerns. So many causes, so little time. Please take
some time to visit our Tributes page and Lorraine's page (we have kept
Lorraine's page active, even though we believe she has gone to the
Rainbow Bridge).
North Shore Animal League
You may have heard about Scarllet, the cat who pulled her five wee kittens
from a burning building? Well Scarllet and her kittens were taken to the North Shore
Animal League who cared for them and eventually found them all good homes. Founded
in 1944, the North Shore Animal League is a "no-kill" Adoption agency for
abandoned and homeless pets. The North Shore Animal League is a non-profit humane
organization supported 100% by voluntary donations from people like us. They are
dedicated to finding the best possible homes for each pet, even those who are blind, deaf
or otherwise disabled.
I have provided some meager financial support to them for a number of
years and suggest you consider doing the same. At the very least, find a
"no-kill" shelter near you and support them. North Shore has a neat
program where you can "sponsor a kitty or dog" whose chances of finding someone
to adopt them is slim. The funds will help North Shore care for these animals.
Animal Abuse Prevention Agency, Inc.
"Dedicated to:
The memory of all the animals who were caged, hunted, beaten, tortured, starved, chained,
exploited, or simply ignored. We love them all - but sadly, they never knew
it!"
This statement appears when you first enter the
AAPA. They are a non-profit
organization taking a pro-active approach in preventing cruelty to animals.
Their
services include educating pet owners on the dangers of giving their animals away by using
"free to good home ads". They also do pet adoptions, rescue, provide vet
services, work for the enforcement of animal rights, and provide temporary care for pets
without a home. Pay their site a visit.

PAAAW
(People Against Animal Abuse World-Wide.) An online organization dedicated to
fighting animal abuse. Unlike some of the more extreme groups, PAAAW doesn't believe
in fighting one form of violence with another. They believe that education and
awareness are some of the most powerful tools in the war against abuse of any kind.
